Mug Shots of Online Offenders Revealed for First Time through MessageLabs Innovative Marketing Campaign
London & New York, 16 January 2008 – MessageLabs, the leading provider of messaging and web security services to businesses worldwide, today launched its new multi-media marketing campaign which, for the first time ever, artistically visualises the online security threats which have historically wreaked havoc on the business world.

Comprising of 15 images created by digital artist Alex Dragulescu, the campaign commences this week with print advertising appearing in key technology publications in the US and the UK. The unique images of online demons such as spam, viruses, phishing attacks and spyware will subsequently be rolled out across a number of key markets and used throughout MessageLabs integrated marketing programs during 2008 including online marketing activities, advertising, direct mail, media relations, and at industry events.

“We feel that with this campaign, MessageLabs has achieved the originality that is imperative to any successful advertising and marketing campaign,” said Jos White, Chief Marketing Officer and co-founder, MessageLabs. “We scan billions of web pages, email and IM messages each day so being the first company to develop these visually arresting ‘mug shots’ of the online offenders which we destroy on a daily basis has been an enlightening process. The campaign illustrates in a very powerful way the wide range of threats that are out there and the need for effective defences against them."

Dragulescu’s unique style of computational art is created by entering a sample of the actual code from each online threat into his proprietary computer program and combining the results with his artistic skills, which results in a three dimensional image.

The innovative campaign was developed by the award winning communications agency Rapier, who delivered exceptional creativity and took technology advertising beyond the stereotypical images of servers or confused users whilst communicating MessageLabs relentless and energetic tone throughout the campaign.
